
The Vienna University Choir consists of approximately 300 singers who are divided into four different choral groups, two of which are women's choruses. Be it for beginners or for advanced singers, we offer you the ideal choir to suit your needs! The various choirs cater to the different musical preferences and levels of the singers and the repertoire is selected accordingly.
Activities 2012
From the 23rd till the 26th of April 2012 a concert series with the “Mozart Requiem”, the “Stabat mater” by Pergolesi and the Bach Motet “Singet dem Herrn” will be sung. Due to popular demand, the Carmina Burana will be repeated on June 18th, 2012 in the main hall of the Vienna Konzerthaus; the last concert on the 14th of June 2011 was sold out one month beforehand! Further concerts with musicals are planned with the Voice Club. In May 2012 two choral workshops will be offered in Italy. Between the 7th and 12th of Dec. 2012, “The Creation” by Joseph Haydn, the second symphony “Lobgesang” by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and gospel concerts will be performed during our Christmas concert series.
Enough work ahead and something for every taste! You do not have to be Student of the Vienna University to sing with us! Men’s voices are especially desired.
Past Projects
Between the 5th and the 12th of Dec. 2011 six Christmas concerts with works by Dvorak, Brahms und Gounod as well as gospels were sung. On the 14th of June 2011 all choirs performed Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana in the sold out main hall of the Vienna Konzerthaus. The concert was sold out one month before the performance! In April 2011 Handel’s masterwork, Dixit Dominus , the Polovtsian Dances by Borodin and the 40 part (!) motet “Spem in Alium” by Thomas Tallis were sung. There was a concert tour to Chile and Brazil where one of our concerts was sung to an audience of 10.000 listeners. In December 2010 Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and the Christmas Oratorio by Saint Saëns were performed. In addition, Masterworks such as „A Ceremony of Carols“ by Britten, „Navidad Nuestra“ by Ramirez as well as many other chamber music works were sung.
In the academic years 2009-10 G. F. Handel's Messiah and the Te Deum by Georges Bizet were sung. In the end of March 2010 J.S. Bach's St. Johns Passion and in June the Mass in e minor by Anton Bruckner was performed.
In April the women’s choirs undertook a concert tour to Southern France and another tour lead the Symphonic and the Chamber Choir to China in July where they will also gave concerts at the World Exhibition in Shanghai.
In the term 2008-9 in March the Verdi Requiem, Dixit Dominus by Handel and the Nicolai Mass by Haydn, the Rhapsody for Alto, Men’s Chorus und Orchestra by Brahms and the „Gesang der Geister über den Wassern" by Schubert were sung.
Together with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the choir performed the musical „Mulan" in the Vienna State Opera on 30. Aug.08. In September 2007 the choir went on a concert tour to Peru.
